Questions, answered
Bake day, pickup, delivery, allergens and money. If what you need is not here, write to me and I will answer within one business day.
Ordering & bake day
When do you bake?
Once a week, on Saturday. Pickup runs from 12:00 to 12:30 PM and delivery from 1:00 to 6:00 PM. Everything is baked fresh for that day rather than held over.
How do I place an order?
Add what you want from this week’s bake to your basket and go through checkout. You choose pickup or a delivery parish there, and the fee is added to your total before you pay.
An order is not confirmed until it has been successfully submitted and, where applicable, payment has been received or otherwise confirmed.
Can I change or cancel after ordering?
If your order has not yet entered production, write to me and I will change or cancel it. Once a bake has begun, changes and cancellations are limited, because everything is made fresh and often specifically for individual orders.
If there is a problem with your order, contact me as soon as possible so we can look at it together and find the right resolution.
What if something sells out?
Everything is handcrafted in limited quantities, so availability varies and an item listed here can become unavailable before your order is fulfilled. If I have to cancel an order you have already paid for, the amount paid for the cancelled items is refunded.
Pickup & delivery
Where is pickup, exactly?
Hilo Barbican, 87 3/4 Barbican Road, Kingston 8, St. Andrew. I will be parked beside the large red container. Pickup is free, and the window is 12:00 to 12:30 PM on Saturday.
Where do you deliver, and what does it cost?
Kingston & St. Andrew, J$800. St. Catherine, J$1,000. Knutsford Express, J$1,500. Delivery runs 1:00 to 6:00 PM on Saturday.
Delivery times are estimates and can be affected by traffic, weather, courier availability or other circumstances outside my reasonable control.
How does Knutsford Express work?
The J$1,500 is made up of a J$800 bike courier fee to get your package to Knutsford, plus the J$700 Knutsford fee.
Please note that packages sent via Knutsford Express are not guaranteed to be available for pickup on the same day they are dispatched. Pickup availability is subject to Knutsford Express’s delivery schedule and processing times.
What if I miss the pickup window?
Contact me as soon as you know. WhatsApp is fastest on a bake day. The window is only thirty minutes wide, so the sooner I hear from you the more I can do.
The bread itself
Is any of it gluten-free?
No. Everything is prepared in an environment where wheat/gluten, dairy, eggs, nuts, seeds and other allergens may be handled. While care is taken during preparation, The Doughjo cannot guarantee that any product is completely free from allergens or cross-contact. Unless a product is specifically identified as such, our sourdough should not be considered gluten-free.
If you have a food allergy, intolerance, coeliac disease or other dietary requirement, please contact us before ordering.
How long will it keep?
Because it is freshly baked and contains few or no commercial preservatives, shelf life differs from mass-produced baked goods. Storage, reheating and freezing instructions come with your order. Following them is what keeps the loaf good. The Doughjo is not responsible for deterioration caused by improper storage or handling after an order has been collected or delivered.
Why does the same loaf look different each week?
Because it is handmade. Slight variations in size, shape, colour, crumb, decoration and general appearance are normal and expected. I may also substitute packaging or make minor changes to appearance without affecting the nature or quality of what you ordered.
What makes it sourdough rather than ordinary bread?
A live starter instead of commercial yeast, and time. The dough is given a long, slow ferment to develop the flavour, texture and character that make each bake what it is. The method walks through it step by step.
Payment
What currency are prices in?
All prices on this site are in Jamaican Dollars (JMD) unless otherwise stated.
Can prices change after I order?
Prices can change at any time, but a change will not normally affect an order that has already been confirmed and paid for.
Who handles my card details?
Payments made through this website are processed by third-party payment providers. The Doughjo JA does not necessarily receive or store your complete debit or credit card information. Payment providers process it according to their own privacy and security practices. See the Privacy Policy for the full picture.
Workshops
How do I join a sourdough workshop?
Write to me and I will send the details for the next class. Dates, pricing and venue are announced per class rather than kept on a fixed schedule.
Registration for Doughjo workshops and other educational events may be subject to additional booking, cancellation, payment and attendance policies provided during registration. Where separate class terms are provided, those terms apply in addition to the Terms of Use.
Still stuck? Email thedoughjoja@gmail.com or message +1 (876) 835-1008. I aim to respond within one business day. During busy bake days, holidays or periods of high order volume it may take a little longer.
